Engineered Wood Flooring UK - All Your Questions Answered!

heading_title

It's all about Engineered Wood Flooring! With so many benefits engineered wooden floors are the preferred choice for many of our Oak Flooring Direct customers.

"What is an Engineered Floor"

Generally an engineered floor will consist of a multilayered core with a real wood top layer (often referred to as a veneer).

The overall thickness of the floor can vary between 14mm-22mm and the top layer of solid wood can also vary from 3.5mm-6mm.

An engineered flloor will give the look and performance of a solid floor but with the added benefit of greater stability and ease of installation.

"Which Engineered Wood Floor is best for me", I hear you ask?

If you need the structural properties of a load bearing floor, our 20mm thick product range with stunning Oiled finishes are a great choice; check out our Oak Carolina (oiled) and Oak Claremont (brushed and oiled). These can be laid as a floating floor, fully adhered or nailed over joists. The boards have a traditional T&G jointing system and benefit from an extra-thick wearing layer of around 6mm.

If you have a smooth, level and even concrete or wooden base the 15mm Engineered Floors from Kahrs and Boen Floors are a great choice; with a 3.5mm-4mm wearing layer they still offer a stunning looking floor with long warranties and the ease of installation associated with the clic lock type joint systems.

Popular products include the Boen Animoso 138mm wide and 209mm wide boards with a feature bevelled edge, the Kahrs Oak Hampshire (187mm wide)  and Kahrs Oak Milano (127mm wide) engineered floors, both of which have a square cut edge.

The Kahrs Oak Milano is an exceptional bargain at the moment at a not to be missed price of £34.95m2 (while stocks last).

"What width of board should I choose?"

The narrower face widths (127mm -138mm) normally work better in smaller/narrower areas such as bedrooms and hallways. If you have the advantage of a larger, open plan area a wider board (187mm -209mm) will open out the area and make it look even more spacious.

Engineered wooden floors when installed as a floating type installation also offer the facility to incorporate an underlay system with thermal insulating and noise reducing properties - a popular choice is our Elka QT Underlay.

We hope you enjoy your new Engineered Wood Floor! As always our team are ready to dispatch samples at your request. Please dont hesitate to contact us with any queries.
