The King of Wood Flooring, The Mighty Oak!

heading_title

Nothing beats the look, feel and even the smell of a new Solid Oak or Engineered Oak Floor, Oak by its very nature is hard durable and a stunningly attractive species, the wood grain is long and straight with variations and knots to add interest.

The Oak in its natural state will start from a pale to golden brown colour and with exposure to light, general use, and aging will become richer and more amber in its tone, the colouring of an Oak floor will not clash with other woods due to its neutral tonal range and is therefore a popular choice with customers with different types of fixtures and furniture.

An Oak floor will not date or go out of fashion, but if you do get tired of the looks a high quality solid or engineered wood product will give you the opportunity to refinish the floor should you so wish.

It’s for these reasons amongst many others that makes Oak the single most popular species for flooring in Europe and the USA.

For those after a clean modern and contemporary knot free Oak floor we would recommend a product such as our Oak Flooring Direct Kahrs Oak Milano, for those wanting a floor with a little more interest and grain variation we would recommend Our Kahrs Oak Baden, or Kahrs Oak Hampshire products, and for those wanting the Country look we love the Kahrs Oak Jersey with its bevelled edges and stunning Natural Oiled finish, for those who want a great value Oak floor with a bevelled edge and ease of maintenance we would recommend the excellent value Boen Oak Animoso Range.

Texture and feel is also an important factor for many customers, if so a brushed oiled or hand scraped finish would be a great selection. However one must also consider that where texture, uneven surfaces and bevelled edges are present cleaning and maintenance will inevitably be more time consuming, a great board with a rustic feel lots of character, with a brushed oiled and bevelled edge finish is our OFD Oak Claremont.

The versatility of Oak is such that the finish grading and surface treatments are endless, from staining, white washing, bevelled edges, hand scraping, there will always be an Oak floor to suit your requirements.

If your feeling artistic here at Oak Flooring Direct we can supply you with a stunning Solid or Engineered Oak Floor in its raw unfinished state, you can then apply a stain, finish and top coat of either natural oil, hard wax oil or lacquer of your own choice to create a stunning floor that will be unique to you.

We can highly recommend the finishing products from our accessories section and from the Bona range of products such as Bona Mega and Bona Traffic HD.

It is also a consideration that when and if you are moving or selling your property, the odds are that any prospective buyers will be impressed with the fact that they have a sound quality Oak flooring product already in place.

An Oak tree can live for up to 1000 Years, can grow up to 30 metres in height and is hard, dense and strong, with a Brinell value of 3.7, Oak trees are sustainable and are not sourced from endangered forests, and when used in combination with softwoods in high quality engineered flooring they represent a sound environmental choice, especially given the potential for prolonged usage and future re-finishing.

As always it is important to bear in mind that samples of Oak Flooring as with any other species are only indicative of what will be a wide range of graining patterns and tones that will blend together to give you a fantastic looking wooden floor.

Long live the king of wood flooring!
